Analysis of the composition of raw household waste (RHW) in Wallonia

Mission objectives

To set up and supervise a sampling campaign of residual household waste across all four seasons, in order to analyse in detail the quantities and types of waste produced by Walloon households and identify trends, in support of waste prevention and reduction policies.

Achievements and impact

• Design of the sampling plan in collaboration with the inter-municipal waste management companies and COPIDEC, and supervision of the contractor responsible for collection.
• Analysis of household waste composition data over a full cycle of four seasonal campaigns.
• Detailed monitoring of changes in the behaviour of Walloon households, providing a unique reference tool for monitoring waste prevention policies.
