Assessment of carpooling potential in the City of Namur

Mission objectives

To assess the potential for car-sharing within the City of Namur and propose concrete measures to promote car-sharing based on the potential identified.

Achievements and impact

• Conducting a review of the current situation regarding car-sharing: existing initiatives, an assessment of car-sharing practices based on a survey of higher education institutions and businesses, and the identification of barriers.
• Calculating the potential for car-sharing based on the structure of the road network, public transport provision and travel patterns (schools and businesses).
• Carrying out a benchmarking exercise covering infrastructure, digital tools, promotion and awareness-raising, financial incentives and governance.
• Drafting action sheets on the measures deemed most relevant, in particular the launch of a pilot car-sharing scheme and the development of a model business park.
