Mission objectives
To contribute, as part of a consortium of 14 partners led by VITO, to the development of a new Belgian tri-regional TIMES model incorporating energy transition technologies, with a view to informing Belgian energy and climate policies for the period 2030–2050.
Achievements and impact
- Joint development with VITO of the overall architecture of the new Belgian TIMES model, based on a tri-regional representation of the country.
- Modelling of the residential and tertiary sectors, several industrial sectors (cement, lime, glass, paper, food) as well as the hydrogen economy and CO₂ capture and storage.
- Study of the interactions between the TIMES techno-economic model and other complementary models (electricity system adequacy, transport behaviour).
- Development and analysis, in collaboration with VITO, of scenarios for Belgium’s future energy system.
