Responsible public procurement: support for the Walloon public authorities

Mission objectives

To support Walloon contracting authorities in incorporating environmental, social and ethical criteria into their public procurement processes, with a view to making public procurement a genuine driver of Wallonia’s transition towards sustainable development.

Achievements and impact

A practical contribution towards steering Walloon public procurement (approximately 10 per cent of regional GDP) towards more responsible purchasing practices, by positioning public authorities as role models in sustainability.
Management of a free helpdesk dedicated to Walloon contracting authorities, providing a personalised response at every stage of the life cycle of their tender documents.
Design, in partnership with the law firm Exelia, of bespoke responsible procurement clauses that can be directly incorporated into tender specifications.
Development and publication, via the SPW, of thematic tools on responsible public procurement.
Organisation of thematic workshops on responsible public procurement.
Monitoring of the latest developments in responsible public procurement and drafting of newsletters.
