Mission objectives
Identify and prioritise the most urgent risks for Belgium arising from climate change and ecosystem degradation, following the European EUCRA methodology.
Achievements and impact
- 28 priority risks analysed across 5 systems: ecosystems, food, infrastructure and buildings, health and wellbeing, economy and finance.
- Each risk assessed for severity, level of scientific confidence and policy readiness, under 3 warming levels (+2, +3 and +4 °C).
- Literature review and consultation of over 250 experts through interviews, workshops and a Delphi survey, with a steering committee bringing together the federal and regional levels.
- Priority recommendations, including integrating climate resilience into national security. The assessment directly underpins the development of federal adaptation measures.
