Mission objectives
Support three Walloon cities in analysing their climate vulnerabilities and building their adaptation plan.
Achievements and impact
A method proven at municipal level, moving from vulnerabilities to measures and then to an action plan integrated into the SECAP, applied in 3 major Walloon municipalities:
- Namur (2020-2021): vulnerability assessment and adaptation plan, mapping of the urban heat island, analysis of exposure and social inequalities in relation to heat, operational mapping of greening and cooling solutions.
- Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve (2022-2023): assessment across 7 themes and a catalogue of measures. The action plan includes 12 action sheets in the Covenant of Mayors format (lead department, budget, indicators). Two pilot areas: restoring a watercourse, and greening the central square, with an urban heat island index calculated before and after the project.
- Charleroi (2023-2025): assessment of climate risks and vulnerabilities, which served as the basis for an adaptation plan built on 5 axes (Cool city, Sponge city, Nature city, Self-sufficient city, Strategic city) and a catalogue of around one hundred actions. Contribution of a building overheating assessment grid.
