Implementation of a Walloon Regional Plan to reduce certain air pollutants by 2030
Context
Air pollution is one of the most critical environmental problems. In order to reduce pollutant concentration levels to low or non-dangerous levels, national and international policies have tackled emission levels in particular. While international policies have played a major role in setting air pollutant reduction targets, Belgium and the Walloon Region have put in place important measures to improve air quality.

Objectives
The objective of the mission is to assist AWAC in developing a regional plan to reduce emissions of air pollutants. The aim is to evaluate effective and concrete policies and measures by 2030 and 2050 aimed at reducing emissions of the 5 NEC pollutants (SO2, NOx, NH3, COV and PM2.5) and BC (black carbon).
Execution
As part of this study, ICEDD was responsible for:
- Defining additional measures to reduce air pollution for combustion plants;
- Developing projections to 2030 and 2050;
- Providing support for organising a stakeholder consultation.
